Does Rogaine helps treat hair loss? Is this a permanent solution for hair loss problem?

I have seen and read an article about the effectiveness of rogaine. I am skeptical on it. I haven’t read the bad sides of it. I have a hair loss problem and wants a solution for it. Rogaine is one of my list to buy products.
