I’ve tried a cheap one (about $10) and it didnt work AT ALL. I have VERY thick VERY stubborn hair. I’d like one thats not too expensive, I’m not paying a cent over $85. Preferably a ceramic one, too.
PS: Please dont say black hair is the same as blonde or red hair, or that race doesnt matter. That’s just ignorant.

Yeah, the cheap ones are crap. You really need to get your hands on a salon one….Always look for one that says SOLID ceramic plates – many are ceramic coated- which will eventualy burn off and breakdown and can destroy your hair in the process. It should also be able to heat to temperatures close to 400 degrees. African American hair definately is not the same as caucasian hair and you will need the extra heat and silkiness that a ceramic/ionic iron will give it. The good thing is you can find salon irons online for some great prices. I bought one last year from overstock.com – the brand Biosilk which i love- it is made by Farouk (the same makers of CHI Products) but is half the price of the CHI and the same quality- also I have seen some salon irons at Winners….I dont know where you are living so mabye you dont have those?.. but there are lots of great alternatives for getting a salon iron and not paying a rediculous salon price i would even try ebay…just remmber to look for that high temperature and solid ceramic plates. Also a good flat iron spray is a good investment also. Good Luck!!
I have a sedu and it works well. Check out folica.com and read some reviews for irons that are within your price range. Getting your hair straight depends more on having a good iron and flat ironing technique. Using the right products is what will keep it straight. You’ll have to experiment until you find the right iron and technique for your hair.
