Can I use the “wrap-around” method with a regular clamp curling iron?

I’m trying to get a Taylor Swift-esque hairstyle, and the tutorial I’m watching requires a clampless, cone-shaped iron and the wrap-around method, where you twist your hair around the cone-shaped iron. Could I get the same look if I just wrapped my hair around a regular clasp curling iron?
